JCI Eastern presents the Art2Heart program. Our aim was to provide a safe environment for self exploration and growth through arts. With the help of volunteers and artists, invited primary school kids were given the opportunity to learn from established artists and experience arts in various forms. This has been a special journal and we invite you to join us!

Award winning program
Have you heard it yet? Our 2011 Art2Heart program has just won JCI Australia's Best Youth Activities Program at this year's National Convention!! We can now proudly say we are running an award winning program!
What Bronte has to say ...
We think our program is great! The artists think our program is great! But what do you think? This is what Bronte has to say about her experience with the Art2Heart program. We thank Bronte for sharing her thoughts with us.
Over 6 weeks a selection of students from schools in the Whitehorse and Maroondah area went to 6 different sessions and saw different artists to learn a bit about being an artist and about the different sorts of art. (note from the Chapter: this program also included students from Monash district)
My favourite sessions would have to be the first one, the third one, the fifth one and the sixth one.
The 1st one was all about movement and feeling in the art that you do. We learnt how to do some cool break dancing moves and then we were taught a dance. After that we got the paints out. We painted how we felt when we watched the break-dancer dance. The artist told us to choose the colours to express the dance in by listening and watching the dance as we worked.
The 3rd one was also at the JCI Hall. It was about making didgeridoos. We all learnt about the instrument from the did Man he was really entertaining and fun to listen to. He could play so well. We learnt how to play them. Then we got to paint a plastic didgeridoo. It was so much fun.
The 5th was the ceramics. We got get our hands into the clay to make and decorate a long tube pot. I enjoyed playing with different designs. I ended up making one with butterflies on it. This one had to be my favourite session.
The 6th one was on glass and multi-media. We made a beautiful wooden box We also got to make 3 pieces of jewellery and a candle holder. The glass was so beautiful and the studio was amazing.
I would like to thank all the artists, Suzi and Amber for all the hard work they put in. Without them the program wouldn't have been a success.
Bronte R.
